How do we navigate the emotions of grief? By using a 3-step process of Recognize – Relate – Release. Here’s how I applied it this week.

I awoke Monday morning with dark clouds shrouding my heart. I could not feel love in the dense darkness.

What is going on with me? I wondered. Curious, I continued asking.

And recognition came.

It was my overwhelm. And fear. Could I do it? Do I have what it takes? Am I alone in this?

I was gentle with myself. This fear was not a problem to fix. Emotions are information, vibrational frequency with intelligence. It was time to listen to my body.

So, I put my left hand on my heart and deepened my breath. I focused again on the overwhelm. And asked, What do you want me to know?

The answer quickly came. You are not creating the Emotional Wellbeing  Program alone. Pick up your pen and answer the five “W” questions.  

Of course!! How often do we believe that everything is up to us?

I remember my Nebraska neighbor, Liz Ray saying, “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”

 Well, I am not in Nebraska anymore!

So, I grabbed my pen and paper and began:

  • What is Emotional Wellbeing?
  • Where do I find it?
  • When is it available?
  • Who is it for?
  • Why now?

 Surprisingly, as the answers flowed onto the page, the overwhelm and fear vanished.

Recognize-Relate-Release

Once again, the recognize-relate-release process worked. The clouds around my heart dissipated.

First, I recognized the emotion. Then, I related to it with questions. Finally, I released it.

Finally, I laughed out loud as I stretched, yawned, and sighed my way into a miraculous Monday. And there was love. The emotion that allows me to access my inner wellbeing.

Many of us thought things would be back to normal by now. But no, the Pandemic Pause continues. So does the uncertainty and loss. Life as we knew it is gone. We grieve.
