As a Grief Therapist, you encounter disengaged clients.

Naming their emotions or emotional state is difficult.
They’re ambivalent about what they want.

Former interests, activities, and people get ignored.
An almost zombie-like state persists.

GRIEF DISCONNECTS US FROM OURSELVES.

As you know, humans have a powerful protective mechanism within our subconscious. It allows us to distance from our emotions, protecting us from emotional trauma. Our minds “block out” unbearably painful events like death.

Directly after a shocking event, stress hormones flood our brain. What we call the fight-or-flight instinct gives a jolt of energy to deal with a situation. But chronic stress fatigue sets in when these stress hormones keep getting activated.

The fatigue causes us to distance from our own feelings, emotions, and desires. It leaves us feeling chronically unhappy or numb.

The problem is, those unprocessed emotions never go away. They get stored in our body and left unresolved, they fester. This can lead to chronic illness, depression, unhealthy behaviors, or even explosive outbursts.

WE LONG FOR WHO OR WHAT IS NO MORE

Deep loss crumbles a pillar of our identity out from under us. Like the devastating death of a child.

How we once interacted with the world shifts. We feel lost – uncertain of who we are now.

So, we find ourselves longing for the past. Living in the past. Aching for who or what is gone.

ASK, “ARE YOU STAYING IN THE PRESENT OR LIVING IN THE PAST?”

Healing begins in the present moment. The now. Practicing body-mind and breathing techniques connects us to the present. Your client can begin reconnecting to their well-being within.

Awareness is the first step to begin processing emotions stored the body. The body longs to communicate. Try this technique in your next client session to connect with the body in the present moment.

First, a DEEP CLEANSING BREATH. Repeat 3x.

      • Breathe in. (Deep inhale.)
      • Breathe out. (Cleansing exhale.)
      • Relax

AWARENESS ENERGIZER

    1. Become aware of a body ache or tightness
    2. Rub your hands palms together until hot
    3. Place one or both on the ache, pain, or tightness
    4. Allow it to soften, melt, reduce, or release
    5. Remove your hands & shake them out
    6. Thank your hands & body for the energy you feel

By the way, this isn’t just for clients. Whenever you too feel a bit drained, take a moment for yourself.
You’ll experience a fresh reset of energy – fully present and ready for your next client session.
